How to Store Tongkat Ali Root Slices (and Brewed Tea) So They Stay Fresh
How to store Tongkat Ali root slices: airtight, cool, dark and dry. Plus how to keep brewed tea in the fridge, signs of mold or spoilage, and what to do when a parcel arrives.
How do you store Tongkat Ali root slices? Keep them airtight, cool, dark and dry — in the original sealed pack or a clean airtight container in a cupboard, away from sunlight, heat and steam. Moisture is the enemy: use dry hands, reseal after each use, and throw the slices away if you ever see mold or smell anything sour or musty.
Storage at a Glance
| Do | Avoid | |
|---|---|---|
| Container | Original sealed pack, glass jar or tin with a tight lid | Open bags, paper bags, loosely closed tubs |
| Place | Cool, dark cupboard | Above the stove or kettle, on a sunny shelf |
| Moisture | Dry hands or a dry spoon; reseal straight away | Wet utensils; storing near the dishwasher or sink |
| Big packs | Decant a week’s worth into a small jar, keep the rest sealed | Opening the main pack every day |
| Humid climates | Add a food-safe desiccant sachet | Leaving the pack open in humid air |
When Your Parcel Arrives
Our slices ship vacuum-sealed from Malaysia, and a parcel can spend a few weeks in transit. When it arrives:
- Check the seal. The pack should be intact and tight.
- Look and smell. Slices should be dry and firm with a clean, woody smell.
- Photograph any problem — broken seal, dampness or visible mold — and contact us within 7 days. Those cases are reshipped free under our returns and reship policy.
Fridge or Freezer?
For dried root, usually neither. Cold slices collect condensation every time the container is opened in a warm kitchen, and moisture is what leads to mold. A cupboard is better. If you live somewhere very humid, use an airtight container with a food-safe desiccant, and keep only a small working supply out.
Storing Brewed Tea
- Cool promptly, then refrigerate in a clean, covered bottle or jar.
- Batch-brewing (8–10 slices in 3–4 litres) is convenient; many people use the batch within about five to seven days.
- Throw it out if it smells sour, tastes off, turns cloudy or shows any growth.
- Used slices can be simmered again the same day or the next; do not keep wet slices at room temperature.
We do not publish a validated storage time for prepared tea, so treat it like any home-made herbal drink and trust your senses.
Signs the Root Should Be Discarded
- Fuzzy, powdery or coloured spots of mold
- Sour, musty or “damp cellar” smell
- Slices that feel soft, damp or sticky
- Insects or webbing in the container
Do not rinse, re-dry or boil moldy root to “rescue” it.
Does It Lose Strength Over Time?
Dried botanicals can slowly lose aroma and flavour, and good storage slows that down. We do not publish stability testing, so we cannot give a figure for how long any compound lasts — another reason to buy an amount you will use rather than the largest pack by default. The price-per-serving page helps you size an order.
